Satellite links:

-POINT-to-POINT (SCPC=single channel per carrier)

-POINT-MULTIPOINT (MCPC=multiple channel per carrier)

-POINT-MULTIPOINT (TDMA=time division multiple access)

Satellite links : POINT-MULTIPOINT (TDMA=time division multiple access)

 :: This type of link is used in order to make available the same service to many remote users. The main difference from the MCPC is that there are many more remotes that can be connected, and also at a much lower price.

  :: Unlike MCPC, in this case the master station (HUB) uses a single wideband carrier for Tx, and each remote receives the data on that frequency, but only in a given timeframe.

  :: All the terminals in one customer's network shares some particular timeframes, specially allocated to that customer. This concept allows a better versatility in bandwidth management for specific applications, in the same time keeping low costs. The typical applications for TDMA are those in which the traffic has a burst pattern.

 :: Advantages:
         bandwidth: 8 kbps - 1,5 Mbps upload (from remote to HUB);
                          8 kbps - 10 Mbps download (from HUB to remote);
         static or dynamic bandwidth allocation for a given terminal, according to the traffic pattern;
         lower cost, by shared bandwidth;
         remote management from HUB;
         data transfer, voice, video (optional).
